Common faults and what they usually mean

• Handle is floppy or won't lift — the gearbox in the multipoint mechanism has failed. We replace the gearbox or the full strip, matching the original where the manufacturer still exists and using a universal repair kit where they don't.
• You have to lift or pull the door to lock it — the door has dropped or the keeps are out of line. Usually an adjustment, not a new lock.
• Key turns but won't throw the bolts — a broken cylinder cam or a worn gearbox.
• Door locked shut and won't open — a failed mechanism with the hooks engaged. We open it with minimal damage and repair or replace the mechanism.
• Cylinder snapped — the door was attacked. We fit an anti-snap cylinder so it can't happen again.
